Leasie Yvonne McDuffie Whitmire

Leasie Yvonne McDuffie Whitmire, 85, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2025.
Mrs. Whitmire was born on April 13, 1940, in Habersham County, Georgia, to the late Clarence McDuffie and Helen Myers McDuffie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gerald Whitmire; sisters, Bertie Chaffin, Louise Parker; brother, Howard McDuffie.
Leasie was a member of Chopped Oak Baptist Church and was a life time member of the Habersham Historical Society. Leasie was part of the Myers Sisters and Leasie Band for approximately 23 years, and was the last surviving member. She was also part of the Myers Family and Friends Band for a number of years. Along with her late husband, Gerald, Leasie was the former owner and operator of Whitmire Convenience Store and Restaurant as well as Stew N Que for over 20 years. She also worked for Ethicon Staffing Services for 10 years.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Tracy Lewallen, of Baldwin; daughter, Denise Carey, of Cumming; step-daughters, Jerri D. Butts, of Florida; Carol Beth Medler, of North Carolina; Sherri Orcut, of North Carolina; sister, Ann Reems, of Baldwin; and Pat Alexander, of Clarkesville; brother, Lonnie McDuffie, of Cleveland; seventeen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2025, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Rev. Kenneth McEntire officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2025, at the funeral home prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, 1680 Tullie Road, Atlanta, GA 30329.
