Lowell Sherman Obituary

Lowell "Kent" Sherman, 81, of Clarkesville, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Born December 22, 1942, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he was the eldest son of the late George Russell Sherman and Ruby Arloene (Jagger) Sherman. Mr. Sherman received his Undergraduate Degree from the Indiana Institute of Technology and his Masters Degree from Colorado State University. After graduation, he worked as a Civil Servant for the United States Navy, first in Corona, California, and then in San Diego, California. In the early 1980's, he became a Private Defense Contractor with various firms, ultimately working for Lockheed Martin in Orlando, Florida, until his retirement in 2016. Over nearly a 50-year professional career in electronic warfare, Kent was unequaled in his drive to aid the "warfighters" and support our national security. Kent was an avid sportsman and fan who enjoyed baseball, football, soccer, and NASCAR. He took joy in playing golf, baseball, and softball, coaching soccer for his children, and cheering his grandchildren in their activities. Mr. Sherman was a member of the Association of Old Crows. He was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kellie Paige Sherman.
A loving father and devoted husband, Kent's survivors include his loving wife of 56 ½ years, Judy Helen (Jeppson) Sherman, of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Greg Sherman and Katie (Hammer) Sherman, of Fairfax, Virginia; grandchildren, Dean Sherman and Georgia Sherman; siblings; and large extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. John Umberhant officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour on March 23 at the funeral home.
An online guest register is available and may be viewed at www.mcgaheegriffinandstewart.com.

I just learned of Mr. Sherman´s passing; I always just called him "Sherman." He and I would run into each other on our daily walks in The Orchard. Always such interesting conversation with him; he was truly a man of knowledge! I remember when our little King Charles Spaniel, Bonnie, escaped and found her way to Sherman´s house; she was treated like royalty and debated whether she wanted to return to our house. I will certainly miss Sherman and our brief "in passing" conversations!
Sincerely,
Jenna Hensley
