Hartwig Arlon

Arlon J. "Amos" Hartwig, age 83, of Wautoma passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. He was born on March 12, 1929 in the Township of Herman, a son of William and Frieda (Reabe) Hartwig. Amos proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from February 23, 1951 to February 4, 1953. On May 2, 1953 at Peace Lutheran Church in Hartford he was united in marriage to Sylvia Horst. Amos worked at Woodland Foundry, Maysteel, Voight Construction, Guelig Brothers Construction and Wolf Construction before moving to the Wautoma area where he started his own business in 1975, A. Hartwig & Sons Excavating in Neshkoro. While residing in Hartford, he was a member of the Hartford Fire Department and Hartford Drum and Bugle Corp, later joining the American Legion Post 163 of Dakota, Neshkoro Golf League and the Waushara Country Club. Amos enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking, hunting, spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Woody.

Arlon is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sylvia Hartwig of Wautoma; 3 children, Ross (Lori) Hartwig of Markesan, Greg (Debbie) Hartwig of Neshkoro, Mark Hartwig of Wautoma; 4 grandchildren, Zak (Kristin) Hartwig of Markesan, Lucas Hartwig of Markesan, Jacob Hartwig of Neshkoro, Brady Hartwig of Kaukauna; brother, Art (Esther) Hartwig of Fox Lake; sister-in-law, Lolly Hartwig of Brownsville; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, Rachel and Bradley Hartwig; 7 siblings, Clarence Hartwig, Louis Hartwig, Phyllis Lau, Willie Hartwig, John Hartwig, Elfrieda Lehman, Earl Hartwig.

A funeral service for Arlon J. "Amos" Hartwig will take place on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, 226 S. Clinton St. in Princeton with Rev. Daniel Heiderich and Rev. Robert Pless officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow the service in the Memory Hill Cemetery in Princeton. A memorial has been established to St. John's Lutheran Church where Arlon was a faithful member. Please visit our website www.wachholzandsons.com to send online condolences to the family.
