Oshkosh - Richard "Dick" Savka, age 74 of Oshkosh, passed away Sunday morning July 18, 2021 with his wife Sandy by his side.
He was born November 12, 1946 in Oshkosh to Ruth P (Covey) and Carl Savka. Dick graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1964. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Sandy (Monroe) Savka, December 30, 1980. They shared 46 years of life together. Dick was employed by Leach Company, Mercury Marine before joining state employment at Central State (Dodge Correctional) Fox Lake and Wisconsin Resource Center where he retired from in 2005. Dick loved his motorcycles, boating, telling stories, talking, and enjoying time in his beloved garage, living in their home in Avon Park, Florida and loving the warmth there. His favorite was riding his trike with Sandy or their dog Lilly, and we can't forget car shows with his buddies.
Dick is survived by his wife Sandy and their precious dog Lilly; very special "son" Matthew Murphy; brother, Bill (Bonnie) Savka of Waupaca; in-laws, Dennis (Jill) Monroe, Victoria (Dean) Pomgratz, Ken (Barb) Monroe, Dan (Leanne) Monroe, Christine Monroe, Lorna (Gary) Yaroch, Dora Murphy, and Tim Monroe all of Oshkosh, Chuck Miller of Avon Park, FL; many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant son, James; brothers, Jim, Tom, and Dennis Savka; in-laws, Dan Sr. and Janet Monroe; brother-in-laws, Chuck, Skeezy Monroe; sister-in-law, Rosealee Miller, godparents, Ginny and Vic Lux.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 31 at Rainbow park, 1450 Rainbow Drive, Oshkosh, Shelter 1 at 2pm, a prayer service will be held at 2:30pm with Pastor Karen Jewel of St. Andrew's Church officiating, followed by a meal and time of sharing memories.
Special thank you to Dr. Evans and his team at Froedtert Hospital for their brilliance and compassion in the treatment of his pancreatic cancer and survival of his initial diagnosis of 2018, as well as all the friends and family who have helped Dick and Sandy through this journey.
