Luebke, Frederick



Frederick V. Luebke, age 88 of Oshkosh, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, where he lived for the last two years. Born January 31, 1924 in Oshkosh, he was the son of Frederick E. and

Mettie (Ohde) Luebke.

After graduating from Oshkosh High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1942. He served as a signal corps radio operator and fought in battles in the Pacific during World War II, including New Guinea and the Philippines. At his discharge from the Army in December 1945, he was awarded a Bronze Star and other service medals.

On September 28, 1950 he married Dolores Greeninger in Oshkosh. She preceded him in death on December 12, 1990.

As a young father, he was employed by the Soo Line Railroad in Neenah. Later he worked as a storekeeper at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for many years until his retirement.

A member of the Amateur Radio Club in Oshkosh, he also enjoyed vegetable gardening and playing golf with his son-in-law Gary. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and belonged to Peace Lutheran Church in Oshkosh.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Gary Metro of Carbondale, IL.; daughter Connie Luebke of Lyndon Station; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Theodore, Robert and Raymond; a sister, Irene Blanchette, and an infant sister, Pearl.

A graveside memorial service conducted by the Rev. Wayne Schwanke will be held Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A military honor guard will participate in the ceremony.
