ANSELMI, ALBERT H
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Lynn; sons, Kurt (Terry) and Tobin (Kim); daughters, Kim (Mark) Majoros and Holly; his sister, Laurene (Archie "Bud") Patton; and grandchildren, Terese, Tony, Stephanie, Zachary and Daniel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Anthony Anselmi. Albert, in partnership with his sister and brother-in-law, Laurene and Archie Patton, owned and operated the Rolladium Skating Center in Waterford for over 50 years. He directed the Rolladium Skating Club, coaching many National Champions, some who went on to join the USA World Team with Albert also serving as World Team coach. Albert was a past President of the Roller Skating Rink Operators Association in the early 1970's when they were one of the largest contributors to the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association. He was one of several men primarily responsible for the merger in 1972 of the two national roller skating associations which led to the formation of what would become USA Roller Sports, the National Governing Body for roller sports recognized by the US Olympic Committee. He was past President of the Museum of Roller Skating and a Life Member of the Society of Roller Skating Teachers of America. He, with his wife Lynn, was inducted into Roller Skating's Hall of Fame in 1990. An active community supporter, Albert was a President of the Waterford Rotary, former Waterford School Board member and Honoree of the Waterford Foundation for Public Education. His is also a life member of the Waterford Elks.
Funeral Mass Friday, September 18, 2009, 11 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 2700 Waldon Rd., Lake Orion, 48360. Visitation will be at Coats Funeral Home, Waterford, Wednesday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 and Thursday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and also at church Friday 10 to 11 a.m. Donations in lieu of flowers to: The Roller Skating Museum, The Waterford Foundation for Public Education, or Lake Orion Nursing and Rehab Center (van fund).
