Brian Peters Obituary

Brian Peters, aged 74, passed away in Commerce Township after a valiant 3-year battle against cancer.

To his very end, Brian exemplified those virtues he preached most in life; diligent work to take care of those he loved, patience as he sought to share all he knew, and a kindness to anyone who crossed his path.

From a young age, Brian believed in serving the common good. After graduating from Michigan State in 1970, Brian spent his life serving the public, first working as a police officer in Pontiac for more than 25 years where he reached the rank of captain, and then another 20 years as a detective for Oakland County. In his time he stopped killers, drug dealers, white collar criminals, and corruption.

When not serving the state, Brian professed a love for The Rolling Stones, good whiskey, and a clever nickname - ready to welcome anyone he met with a warm grin, a quick joke, and a joyful snort of laughter.

He is survived by loving son Bradford, his barking dog Porter, and his devoted wife Debra.

In ways both obvious and quiet, Brian Peters touched many lives as he strove to make the world a better and just place.

When I would come to work at the County Executive Office, Brian always had a smile on his face and a quick wit. I never was able to be in a bad mood around him. I also loved it when he would share his stories from his Pontiac days. Deepest sympathies and prayers for his family.

So sadden by the news of Brian's passing away. I worked as a Bloomfield Twp. Detective during the years that Brian was a Detective at Pontiac City P.D. ; he was most helpful to me during that time. His obituary captures Brian's essence as he was all those things, friendly, funny, helpful, thoughtful and he had a real heart for the people of Pontiac that he served. I had a great respect for his work ethic and his dedication to law enforcement. Sympathy and condolence to his family, may God comfort your hearts at this time of loss. Brian was a great person and Cop!
