Charles Michael "Chuck" Jones

1931 - 2022

Charles ("Chuck") Michael Jones was born July 13, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to Bernard and Ann Jones. He attended St. Benedict Grade School in Highland Park and graduated from University of Detroit High School in 1949. He attended U of D Engineering School, 1949-1951, and then entered the U.S. Navy, where he served as a Weatherman and was then selected to attend Officer Training School in Pensacola, Florida. He graduated second in his class and became a Navy Pilot. He re-entered U of D Engineering School (graduating with BSME in 1960) and then U of D Graduate School (graduating with MSE in 1964.) He was employed by the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn from 1957-88, where he was involved in many projects in Engine Research. Chuck retired in 1988 and found time to pursue his hobbies of tennis, computers and photography. Chuck had a great affection for people and treasured his family relationships and many friendships. He was always encouraging and an excellent listener with a warm, reassuring smile. His strong Catholic faith and generosity were the hallmark of his life and he was ever ready to lend a helping hand. Chuck loved his country and was a true patriot. Throughout the years, Chuck shared many joyful summer vacations with his children on Lake Leelanau and is fondly remembered for singing and playing guitar around the campfire. He also loved to gather his family together for Christmas. He passed down his passions for tennis, music and the Detroit Pistons to many of his children and grandchildren. As a talented photographer, Chuck brought happiness to his family and others with his DVD compilations documenting countless happy events. Chuck was kind and creative and an inspiration to those who knew him. Beloved husband of Carolyn for 43 years; dear father of Karen DeCoster (David), Michael Jones (Caroline), Cathryn Brown (Jeffrey), Valerie Young (Gordon) and Bernard Jones (Wendy); loving grandfather of Megan, Tyler, Madison, Emily, Nolan, Abigail, and Lindsey; great grandfather of Lily; brother of Virginia McCarthy (George) and Patrick Jones (Alice). He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Jones (Joan); a sister-in-law, Patricia Jones; a sister, Barbara Wright; a brother-in-law, Donald Wright; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Jones and a grandson, Justin DeCoster. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 26 from 4 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. at A.J. Desmond and Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Avenue, (between 13 & 14 Mile). The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 27 at 10 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon Street, Birmingham. Visitation at the church begins at 9:30 a.m. Rite of Committal with Military Honors will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
