Gary was my classmate in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. We were the second class to integrate in 1966-67. Gary helped me get thru the discomfort of being in a new school. This was his Home Town. He knew a lot (if not all) of the peiple we were with Monday-Friday. I moved there after being at the same school for 11 years. He helped me get thru the dog days of 1967 with his smiles, jokes, and friendship. We were also Broth in Christ. God knew I would need him at some point in my life. Gary was a great friend, a great man, an outstanding classmate, and someone you knew would stand for what was right. Thanks for your friendship, for your service to your country, and for serving God. I miss you. Your classmates at Childress High School miss you too. We laugh about the pranks you played on us and how we tried to get even. Your memory will always put a smile on my face. In Christ Jesus, Amen.

JoAnn, you have my deepest sympathies, and Prayers. Gary was a great Friend, that I will miss very much. He always made me feel, as if I was important, and that he was interested in what I had to say. That was very sweet of him, and meant a lot to me. Things WILL get better, and we all walk with you,in Love and Blessings. God take care of you. Rosa

I have known Gary Lee Hopkins since the 6th or 7th grade. We attended the same school until our 11th grade year and them we attended (in the second year of desegregation) his home town high school. He was NOT allowed to attend there and was bused 13-14 miles one-way (ever school year) to attend a "negro" school. We were brother and sister in Christ at an early age. I attended the Church in Nashville, Arkansas and he attended the one in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. Gary was always the clown in the class. With his dry sense of humor. Gary was a joker to hind how smart he was. In our senior year of school we both attended Murfreesbor High School. Gary and I were the only two Blacks to graduate from Murfreesboro High School in Murfreesboro, Arkansas in 1967 (in the second year of desegregation). Gary was the second highest scholar in our class. We were elated!!! Gary was so relaxed about the results, but very happy. I cried tears of joy. We were dates for the prom. We were not dating, we were just there for each other. Gary helped me get through that last year of school. He was always solid and firm and you could count on him to make a joke about the environment of the school. I will always love and respect Gary for all the times we spent together. He was a good friend. I extend my regards to the Hopkins family and wise to say my prayers are with you in this great loss. Mr. Romillious (Mitt)and Mrs. Earlean Wesson Scoggins' children (Janice, Mary, LJ, Peggy and Don) wish you peace and healing from the loss of Gary.

A man of character, honor and dignity and oh so full of wisdom. It was obvious that he loved his wife and family dearly and told me a few tales that made me laugh. Gary taught me to be a little more patient and not to let the little things get to me. He diversified my world in a way that changed me for the better and I will forever be grateful. I will always miss the kind way he answered the phone and will miss the many chuckles he sent my way. He was so kind to me and my son and always included my son in his well wishes. I will miss this man terribly. Truly, we have lost one of the finest people I've ever known. God Bless his family.
