CAMPBELL, REVEREND ROGER FRANK; age 84; of Clarkston; In God’s perfect timing, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, January 9, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Roger was born on a foggy Wednesday, October 29, 1930 in Paw Paw, Michigan in the same family farmhouse in which his mother, Gail Campbell had been born. He attended a one room schoolhouse through the eighth grade and then went to Paw Paw High School from which he graduated in 1948.That same year Roger met Pauline Blok who would become his wife in the summer of 1950. Roger attended Moody Bible Institute and was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 1956 at the East Arlington Baptist Church in Lawrence, MI, his first full-time pastorate. From 1958 – 1970 Roger was the Pastor at Calvary Bible Church in Benton Harbor, MI and from 1970 – 1976 he was Senior Pastor at Waterford Community Church. In subsequent years he served as interim pastor in several Michigan churches, “standing in the gap” for congregations in transition. In the late ‘70s Roger launched Roger Campbell Ministries, an evangelical ministry through which he produced radio broadcasts and wrote weekly newspaper columns, gospel tracts and nearly 30 Christian books, including the acclaimed pastors’ resource 8 book series, Preach for a Year, the most recent of which was published this past August. Wherever he was, Roger always had a good word of encouragement for those he met and was often heard reminding us all that “On the Darkest Day, God Makes a Way…Because He Loves Us.” Roger is survived by his wife of 64 and a half years, Pauline; his four children: David (Sharon) Campbell, Cheryl Powell, Timothy (Kathleen) Campbell and Charlene (Lauro) Martin; his 9 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren; and his siblings Faye (Allen) Blum, Shirley Larsen (the late Ron) and the late Wava Campbell. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2015, 11 a.m. at the Community Bible Church, 1888 Crescent Lake Road, Waterford. Officiating Pastor Thomas Hampton. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the RIVERSIDE CHAPEL, Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home, 5630 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford, and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment Lakeview Cemetery, Clarkston. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be made to Roger Campbell Ministries to help perpetuate Roger’s mission – reaching the world for Christ.
