David Combs Obituary

David Monroe Combs
December 3, 1941 - September 18, 2021
Chewelah, Washington - David Monroe Combs, 79, died September 18, 2021 at home in Chewelah, Washington, after a long illness. Kathleen (Worley) Combs, his wife of 59 years, was at his side. Also surviving him are his children - Cameron Combs, Wayne Combs and Cyndi (Combs) Kiefer - and grandchildren - Haze, Katie, Jenny and Virginia. David was born on December 03, 1941 in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. Of his ten siblings, three survive him - Lavelle Combs, Jerry Combs and Alice (Combs) Birdsell.
David and Kathy's life together started in a cherry orchard, where David charmed Kathy with his willingness to move her ladder and carry her buckets. They raised their family on a small farm south of Tumwater, Washington. David worked as an architect, building inspector, then Head of the Building Department for the City of Olympia, and later ran his own home inspection business. Prior to retirement, he was a project manager for the Washington State General Administration. David was a dedicated member of the Tumwater United Methodist Church, and other civic groups including United Way and Rotary. After retirement, David and Kathy moved to Chewelah Washington to live in their dream home and spend more time with family and other pursuits, becoming members of the Chewelah United Church of Christ. Throughout his life, David was a man of great integrity and deep Christian faith who demonstrated strength in a gentle, loving way.
A memorial service will be announced later, when we hope we can gather in person to remember him.

Kathy, I'm so sorry you lost the love of your life. I will always remember David as a sweet, caring man who loved his family more than life. I hope he and Del are having a great reunion.
