Edward Stevens Obituary

Edward Stevens Sr. Edward Stevens, Sr., age 77, passed away at his home on June 21, 2020 with his family by his side. Ed was born in 1942 to Harry and Ella Stevens in Aberdeen, WA, and attended Hoquiam High School, Washington State University and St. Martins University. Ed and his wife, Andrienne, moved from Grey's Harbor to Olympia in 1968 and were long-time residents at Long Lake and had a second home at Hood Canal. Two years ago, after his wife passed away (2016), Ed moved to the Indian Summer Golf Course Community. Ed worked for the State of Washington Department of Transportation as a civil engineer then later went into private practice for many years serving as an expert witness in traffic litigation cases. Ed's work was instrumental to making our roads safer and he was passionate about his work. Ed enjoyed scuba diving, golfing, fishing, hunting, snow skiing, boating and was a connoisseur of fine food and wine. Ed traveled to many beautiful places in the world and especially loved Southern Italy. Ed is survived by his two children, Nannette Dayton and son-in-law Mike Dayton (Tierra Verde, FL) and Edward Stevens, Jr., PhD. and daughter-in-law Christa Stevens (Olympia, WA). Ed is also survived by his three grandsons, Hayden Hill (24), Blayne Hill (20), Kaiden Stevens (8), sister Judith Edwards (Richland, WA) and many nieces and nephews. Ed was a fun-loving and generous man that will be dearly missed. The family will hold a celebration of life within the next few months to assure the safety of all. Kaiden

April 29, 2024

My name is kaiden I am 11 and ed was my grandpa, i called him papa though. I remember when my mom and dad had to go to work they would babysit me and it was awesome. I remember this one pisific time, where papa would get out this realy old thing that would get the skin off of apples, and to do it you had to spin this handel, it was really hard, but he would help me and when I was little it was really cool. one time for christmas he got me this weird tube with a string on it, and you could pull it around and it would spin and shake and boy oh boy i loved that thing. it was attached to this plate thing and the tube would fall off really easily but i was to young to figure out how to put it back on, so he would help me and i had no idea how he did it so i thought he had majic fingers, that wa really funny. One time at his old house, or more like a hotel, he set up a easter hunt for me, and it was super fun. his house was so big and it took me so long to find all of them, but it was worth it. papa made friends everywhere he went, he was kind and will never be forgoten. Me and my family miss him alot. but something thats really cool, is that when his wife died, we started finding pennys in our house in hidden places. we would think that it was noni (thats what i called papas wife) and so when we would find a penny we would say: "hi Noni!". When papa passed, we looked under a towel and found a penny and a nickle sitting together. thats all i have to say. may he rest in peace

Ed Stevens was the foremost Champion of Safe Highway Design in the State of Washington, besides being the most charming engineer you could imagine. He has a front seat in Heaven.
