Eugene Asselstine Obituary

Eugene (Gene) Asselstine Eugene (Gene) Asselstine, born May 25, 1927 to Hulda, (Reichman), and Clayton Asselstine in Sunnyside WA. Gene lived and attended schools in Sunnyside, after high school he then went to Washington State University, he graduated with a degree in civil engineering. After college Gene married Shirley Chaplin, together they started a family, son Dave was born while living in Richland WA. Gene and family then moved to Coulee City so Gene could be a part of working on Coulee Dam. After that the family moved to Prosser WA. For employment with the County, while living in Prosser, a daughter Donnie was born. After several years in Prosser, the opportunity of becoming the City engineer for Clarkston WA arrived. Gene and family lived in Clarkston for several years. The next new job and move came when the WA State Pollution Control Commission, (Dept. of Ecology) was formed. Gene and family moved to Yakima WA. For 4 years, the next move was to Spokane WA for 4 years, the next move was to Lacey WA to continue his career with the Dept of Ecology. While living in Lacey Gene was a Lacey City Councilman, volunteered his time to Community Youth Services. After retiring from the Dept of Ecology, Gene took a job helping with the expansion of the LOTT plant in Olympia. After finally retiring, Gene and Shirley discovered the fun of RV travel, they became members of the Holiday Ramblers and made great memories, they also traveled outside the US experiencing many different cultures. After Shirley passed, Gene met and Married June Beck, they continued the joy of RVing and travel to foreign countries. Gene and June moved from their Long Lake home to Yuma AZ to live in Yuma full time. Gene made many new friends and lived a full and happy life until his passing on December 10, 2018. Family members include, Wife, June Asselstine, Son, Dave and Brenda Asselstine, Daughter, Donnie and Dean Burton, two grandsons, Ryan Castro and Jay Burton, 2 great granddaughters.
