Gerard Carlstrom Obituary

Gerard Marcus Carlstrom Jr., born on March 9, 1954 at Fort Lawton, Seattle Washington passed away on March 9, 2025 in Olympia, Washington after a long struggle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was the beloved first son of Gerard Sr. and Helen Carlstrom.

Gerard graduated from Olympia High School and earned an associate degree from Ft Steilacoom Community College. He later moved to Alaska to work in the marine fisheries industry. Throughout his life, he worked in contracting, construction, and building maintenance. For 31 years, Gerard made his home at Offut Lake, near Olympia, where he loved working on projects, gardening, and relaxing by the water, surrounded by birds, fish, frogs, and lily pads.

An avid photographer of people, events and seasons of the year, Gerard could be found snapping photos documenting family and friend gatherings and his many travel adventures throughout his life. His interest in family ancestral history was evident in his photo taking.

In more recent years, with his own health declining, he was committed to taking care of our mother Helen in her later years.

He is preceded by this father, Gerard Sr. and mother Helen, and is survived by his sister Elsa Croonquist, Mark Carlstrom (Kathryn) and brother Jeff Carlstrom, along with his nieces, nephews and step-mother Jackie Carlstrom.

A private family memorial was held in the Spring.
