After our dad's passing in the fall of 1945, Jim took his place as head of household, co-provider for our family and head of family transportation. He worked at many jobs while in college at Western, using his earnings to provide for our family. He bought and sold cars, flipped spudnuts, sold clothes at McDougals, all while studying for his music degree. Upon graduation he took a position teaching in the Shoreline school District and brought Kathy and Ruth into his home. His drive was relentless. Multi-tasking was his personal passion, his responsibility and his addiction. But what I remember and will always treasure was his kindness.
