Olympia, Washington - Lawrence (Larry) F. Scott Jr passed away on February 11, 2022. He was born on July 19, 1943, in Seattle, Washington to Lawrence and Kathleen Scott. A few years later they moved to Edmonds, Washington.
Larry graduated from Edmonds High School in 1961, attended Everett Junior College and the University of Montana. During college Larry met Maxine Bakker and they married in 1965. He graduated from U of M with a BS in Forest Engineering in 1967. Two weeks later he started working for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources where he spent his entire career working in engineering, forestry and fire management. Larry retired in 2003 after 36 years at DNR.
Larry played baseball, basketball, and football in high school. He organized, coached and umpired youth baseball, and was a big Seahawks, Mariners, Huskies and Gonzaga basketball fan. In earlier years Larry enjoyed hunting, camping and boating. He also liked golf, skiing and playing cards. He enjoyed traveling and attending theater and musicals with Maxine and loved family get togethers.
Larry is survived by his wife Maxine of 56 years; sons Dudley (Sheila), Brian (Lisa), Brady (Cindy) and Erik; grandchildren Ashley, Nicole, Larry, Alden and Emory; great grandchild Chloe; sisters Peggie and Judy (Mike); cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Larry will be at 2pm on Saturday, May 14 at the Olympia Christian Reformed Church, 2121 Log Cabin Road Southeast, Olympia, WA 98501. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Thurston County Furniture Bank at 2121 Log Cabin Road Southeast, Olympia, WA 98501 or a charity of your choice.
