Louis Dupre Obituary

Louis G. Dupre Louis G. Dupre, 81, died peacefully of COPD complications on August 8, 2012 at Mother Joseph's Nursing Home in Olympia, Washington. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at Funeral Alternatives of Washington, 2830 Willamette Drive NE, Lacey. The Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Lou was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 25, 1931 and grew up in Calumet City, a suburb about 20 miles south of Chicago. Following graduation from high school, Lou enlisted in the Air Force and entered the Aviation Cadet Training Program. Upon graduation Lou was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant with a rating of Navigator/Bombardier and assigned to the Strategic Air Command (SAC). Rising to the rank of Captain, Lou served with distinction as a B-47 Navigator / Bombardier and, after pilot's training, as a pilot. In April 1965, after 13 years with SAC during the height of the Cold War, Lou chose to leave the Air Force and pursue his interest in freelance writing and professional fishing. During that period Lou traveled the continent participating in and reporting on fishing tournaments and activities throughout the United States and Canada. In 1980 Lou moved to Olympia, Washington to be closer to family. He found employment with the State of Washington, Department of Social & Health Services (DSHS), and served in a variety of capacities until his retirement in 2003. During this period, Lou remained active in professional fishing associations, starting several clubs in the Puget Sound Area and continuing to pursue his freelance writing and photography interests. Lou was an avid sports fan and collector of sports memorabilia. He was well known as a walking encyclopedia on sports statistics and well-loved by his immediate family as a fun-loving gamester who was always ready to start a new game or join one in session. He is missed! Please sign the guestbook and leave condolences at FuneralAlternatives.org Arrangements are with Funeral Alternatives of Washington, Lacey. 360-491-2222.

I had the honor and priveledge to meet Lou in a professional setting as the nursing supervisor of a local home health agency. Lou always was a gracious 'host' with wonderful and fascinating stories of his air force career and love of deep sea fishing. One of the last times I met with Lou he and I were talking about nutrition and he told me he'd 'got religion' about sodium. His excitement and committment about salt and health had me saying I wouldn't be surprised to see him on a street corner handing out pamphlets about the 'evils' of salt....we got to laughing so hard at the idea and images of him on the street prostelizing that tears were streaming down our cheeks! That day had been such a personaling challenging day for me and the last thing I felt like doing was going to see clients. Lou made my day and I felt he gave me the best gift of laughter and friendship and light. He was always a highlight of any day and his passing has really touched and saddend me. What a lovely, interesting, funny, kind and gracious man was Lou. I thank him for the gifts of time and stories he so generously shared!
