Rebecca Skillman Evans Obituary

Rebecca Skillman Evans
November 21, 1941 - February 7, 2022
Cottage Grove, Oregon - Rebecca "Becky" Evans, of Cottage Grove, Oregon, died February 7, 2022, at the age of 80.
She was born on November 21, 1941, in Olympia, Washington, to Charles and Blanche Skillman. She graduated from Olympia High School in Olympia, Washington, and attended secretary school before going to work for The Boeing Company in Seattle. She later moved to Cottage Grove, Oregon, where she met and married Skip Evans. Becky worked for several years as a cartoonist for the Cottage Grove Sentinel, and had a weekly comic strip called "The Grovers," which was based on her family.
Becky was known for being social and opinionated. She loved dancing, making art, playing piano, singing, and arguing politics. She was addicted to the game show "Jeopardy," and prided herself on being able to summon the correct answer before Trebek finished reading the clue. She loved animals and was often found rescuing strays and finding them homes. She adored her children and never let an opportunity go by without telling them "I love you." She loved being a mom.
She is survived by her daughters, Laurel Mavuwa of Happy Valley, Oregon; and Kate Erickson of West Linn, Oregon; honorary son, Daniel Bice, of Sandy, Oregon; numerous grandchildren; and brothers, Bob Skillman of Olympia, Washington; and John Skillman of Queen Valley, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Skip Evans; and son, Ted Evans.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, at River View Cemetery Funeral Home in Portland, Oregon. Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
