Robert Smith Obituary

Robert Allen Smith Robert Allen "Bob" Smith, 69, lost his battle with cancer at home with family by his side on July 10, 2017 in Olympia, WA, where he had lived happily the past 28 years. He was born January 22, 1948 to Charles and Anne Smith in Creston, Iowa. Robert attended Pleasant Hill High School and joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in 1967, retiring in 1991 after 24 years of service. He was a bus driver for Intercity Transit from 1997 to 2016. Robert married Patricia A. Bigelow on August 3, 1973 in Gatesville, Texas. He was quiet and private but loved joking around. He also loved golf, movies, bowling, fishing, baseball, football, camping, and working on cars and in his yard. Most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Robert is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia A. Smith; daughters, Lisa Hoch and Lori Aviles-Vidales; stepdaughters, Vicky Thompson and Bridget Henderson; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; brothers Charles Smith Jr., Kenny Smith, Russell Smith, John Smith, and Marty Smith; and sisters, Janet Crafts, Terri Landers, Joyce Gonzales, Ella Smith, and Cathy Callison. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Anne Smith. A celebration of Robert's life will be held Saturday, August 12, 2017, 12:00 noon at the family home.
