Albert Lucine Obituary

Albert A. Lucine, Jr., MD of Chadds Ford Albert Avedis Lucine, Jr., MD, 87, of Chadds Ford, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Born on Nov. 17, 1926 in Philadelphia, Albert was the son of an Armenian immigrant, Albert A. Lucine, who was a physician and surgeon in Philadelphia for 48 years, and Grace Ray Wright Lucine. A retired physician after practicing for 45 years, Dr. Lucine graduated from Friends Select in 1943, the University of Pennsylvania in 1947 and the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1951. He did an internship at the Presbyterian Hospital, and was a resident at Pennsylvania Hospital. While at Presbyterian, he met an OR nurse, Mary Jane Lawson, and the two married in 1953. Dr. Lucine was on the staff at Pennsylvania, Chester County and Paoli Memorial hospitals. He was the Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Chester County Hospital in West Chester, from 1965 to 1977, and from 1984 to 1988. A founding member of Planned Parenthood of Chester County, Dr. Lucine was deeply admired for his medical leadership and beloved for his many contributions. In high school and college, Al was an avid soccer and lacrosse player. He continued to play on club teams for several years following graduation. He also received an honorable discharge from the Army of the United States in 1945. He received a good conduct medal, an American theater ribbon and a World War II victory ribbon. Al was first introduced to Morgan horses more than 60 years ago. Al, Janey and their two daughters, Suzy and Betty, enjoyed breeding and showing Morgans. Al enjoyed the day-to-day care of his Morgans. He played an active role in the farm's small breeding program, and was an avid supporter of his family's equine-related endeavors. Al was Chairman of the Board and President of the American Morgan Horse Association from 1981 to 1985. He was a member of the AMHA Board of Directors for 29 years. He served on a number of AMHA committees, including chairman of the first Grand National Morgan Horse Show Committee. He was a member of the committee to establish the irrevocable trust for the AMHA Registry, and served as Chairman of the Registry Committee for ten years. In addition to serving AMHA, Dr. Lucine was a Trustee of the American Morgan Horse Institute and a Director of the American Horse Shows Association. He was Chairman of AHSA's Nominating Committee and served on the Drugs & Medication Committee. Albert is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, of 60 years; his daughters, Suzanne Lucine, wife of Jeffrey A. Koller, of Reading, and Elizabeth Jane Trostle of West Chester; grandchildren, Matthew A. Trostle and Meghan E. Trostle; and a brother, Andrew D. Lucine, MD, of Gilroy, Calif., along with several nephews and nieces.
