John William DeWitt

1959 - 2026

John William DeWitt, 66, of Indianapolis, passed away Feb. 17, 2026 after battling health issues for many years. John was born May 18, 1959 in South Bend, Indiana to the late James and Mary (Banks) DeWitt. He grew up in Culver, Indiana and graduated from Culver Community High School Class of 1977.
John later lived in Knox, IN, Indianapolis, IN, and then lived in Akron, Ohio for a few years before returning to Indy. He held a variety of production, sales, and advisement positions throughout the years before his disabilities forced him into early retirement.
John was a people person, his grade school report cards often showed "very talkative" under the teacher's remarks, and he was always finding opportunities to crack jokes or teach others throughout his life. He loved spending time with his family, and many family events featured him cooking his father's famous "Bowling Alley" hamburgers. John loved playing sports, having grown up in a bowling alley, playing basketball in high school, and then later golfing any chance he got. He could always be found listening to music, his favorites including AC/DC and Pink Floyd.
John is survived by his two daughters, Sheena (Jordan) Davis and Leanna (Alec) Burch-DeWitt; grandchildren, Rylan Davis and Jonah Davis; brother, Jim (Margaret) DeWitt, Jr.; two sisters, Karen (Mark) Noll and Kathy (Jim) Patrick; special friend and caregiver, Teri Su Garske; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be missed by family and friends.
A Celebration of Life open house will be held in Culver, IN at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to the Indiana Golf Foundation, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
