WALKERTON - Karen S. Bacewic, 59, passed away from a lengthy illness on Saturday, May 9, 2015, in her home with her loving husband at her side.
Karen was born Dec. 12, 1955 in Plymouth to Harold and Agnes (Christiansen) Martin. She was a 1974 graduate of John Glenn High School and lived in the Walkerton area for the past 38 years.
On Aug. 14, 1976, in Plymouth, she was married to Russell Bacewic, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Dana Bacewic of Lakeville; her mother, Agnes Martin of Plymouth; two sisters, Carol Miller of Nineveh and Judy (Phil) Matz of Plymouth; her mother-in-law, Elsie Bacewic of Walkerton; sister-in-law, Carolyn Bacewic of Walkerton; brother-in-law, Kenneth Bacewic of Walkerton; nephew, Jerry (Michelle) Bowman and their children, Peyton and Jake of Alabama; Godparents, Maxine Christiansen and Tom Christiansen; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Martin; father-in-law, William Bacewic; and niece, Jennifer Miller.
Karen had worked as a receptionist/secretary at Bremen Glass, MAAX of Bremen, and Masonite in Walkerton, until her illness forced her into an early retirement. She loved to bowl and play cards. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Bulls and spent many hours watching hummingbirds outside her window. Her laughter and smile will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 11 a.m. (Eastern Time) at the Calvary Lutheran Church of Plymouth with Pastor Eric Ahleneyer officiating. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. ET at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. Friends may visit with the family Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to The Hospice Foundation or Calvary Lutheran Church.
