KNOX - Neil John "Bud" Simpson, age 82, of Knox, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, at his home.
Bud was born Sept. 23, 1935 in Chicago to Neil and Sylvia Robertson Simpson, both deceased.
He was a Veteran who served in the U.S. Army and was very active in local veterans organizations, having worked to re-open the Hamlet American Legion many years ago, he was still a member of the Knox American Legion and Knox VFW.
He was an entrepreneur and had owned and operated many businesses over the years including; Cunningham Oil and Bud's Gas in Chicago, Bud's Gas in Knox which was later known as the Pickle Barrel, the Hamlet Truck Plaza, and Fast Break. He was a self-employed truck driver and had worked for Standard Forwarding, Rockwell Windows (Barber & Ross) and Alexander Chemical.
He had been a member of Teamsters Locals 707 in Chicago, 364 in South Bend and 135 in Indianapolis.
On April 27, 1957, in Chicago, he married Mary Louise Besowshek, she survives.
Also surviving are his children, Deborah Simpson (J.D.) of St. Charles, Ill., Diane Kepa (Chris) of Valparaiso, Jimmy Simpson of Knox, Sandy Taylor (Jay) of North Judson, Lori Waletzko of Knox, Shari Tompkins (Marty Minix) of Knox, Rick Simpson (Geri) of Knox, and Ron Simpson of Knox, grandchildren, Adam and Sarah Kepa, Taylor (Amber) Simpson, Alyssa (Eryk) Walton, Blake (Kylie) Simpson, Steven Taylor, Brandi Taylor, Cassie Waletzko, Justin Tompkins, Lindsey Simpson, Andrew Simpson and Meaghan Simpson, and great grandchildren, Ellie, Gaeg and Paxton.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 8, from 4-8 p.m. (CT), with a rosary service at 8pm, at M.C. Smith Funeral Home.
Funeral mass will take place Saturday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m. (CT) at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hamlet.
Visitation will take place Saturday morning at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until leaving in procession for the church, 10:30 a.m.
Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Hamlet.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hamlet.

Grandpa,
It was a honor & a privilege to get to know you & all about your life. I hope I can live up to & follow the Love & Big shoes you left for us all to live up to/fill. The way to put you're family first & listen to everyone. Never place judgements & how to be a man & father. I'm going to miss your words of wisdom in my times of need when I didn't know what I was doing or heading in my life. All the advice & the key's to a happy marriage & life, I'm going to miss the stories & the word's of encouragement. Fishing, just sitting in the garage having beers & the adventures we had when I was little. Not only the life lessons but just about life in general & how thing's are in world. Going to miss the calmness & clarity in voice when we would talk. I have really been missing hearing you a lot lately, Been finding myself waiting to call & talk with you. Still having a hard time with you being gone. The holidays have been here & gone without you. I always will have respect & hope I make you proud with You're name living on through me. I'm thankful to Call you one Of my Best Friend's, I'm not sure how things will be now that your gone, It's sure going to be different. Love you Grandpa it's going to be hard & difficult for a long time just glad you were here & in my life for 82 year's going to miss you..
