It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Darlene Spencer, who left us on Dec. 6, 2025.
A beacon of kindness and love, she devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, showering them with affection, warmth, and unconditional love. Darlene had a heart that embraced all, extending her kindness to everyone she met, including animals. She was never judgmental, always seeing the good in people and sharing her laughter with those around her. Her playful spirit was evident in the joy she found in being teased by her kids, whom she cherished deeply, including her nieces and nephews, whom she counted as her own. And adored her pets, Jazzy and Miss Kitty. A lover of music and the simple pleasures of life, Darlene found joy in sitting on the porch watching for cardinals with the gentle sound of chimes and the laughter of family gatherings. Christmas was a particularly special time for her, filled with love, warmth, and an abundance of decorations. She enjoyed playing cards with her girlfriends and taking road trips to Salamanca, creating bonds of friendship that lasted a lifetime.
Her faith brought her peace, and she found solace in spending time with God, a testament to the compassion she held for everyone and everything around her. She always loved the warmth and fellowship found at Mt. Carmel Church, where she attended.
Darlene is survived by her husband, beloved children, grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who will forever remember her kindness, laughter, and unwavering love: husband William J. Spencer (Mahaffey); daughter, Patricia A. Penman and husband Rob (Punxsutawney); son, William T. Spencer and wife Karissa (Glen Campbell); son, Daniel J. Spencer and wife Niki (Mahaffey); six grandchildren; Devan Penman, Teishia Penman, Emma Spencer, Ava Spencer, Everett Spencer, and Allison Spencer; as well as two brothers; Rick Berg and wife Bobbi (South Carolina), and Randy Berg (Houtzdale), and sister-in-law, Jane Berg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, father John "Casey" Berg and her mother Alice Bookhammer-Berg; and siblings; Betty, Peg, Mert, Donna, Barbara, Larry, John "Horn", and Rosemary and Tom Firment.
