David Clutter Obituary

WESTOVER - David Clyde Clutter Sr, 76, of Westover, passed away peacefully in his sleep; while resting in the presence of his wife and family.

He was born in Westover and served his country in the United States Army, 9th Infantry in Vietnam as a Scout Dog Handler/Combat Veteran from Aug. 17, 1967 to Nov. 23, 1969, Honorable discharge.

He held the position of Mayor of Westover from 1981 to 1985.

David worked and retired from a Supervisor position at Benjamin's Coal Company in Westover. He also worked and retired from SCI Huntingdon as a Corrections Officer.

In his free time, he was an avid outdoors-man. He went hunting whenever he could, and venison was his favorite food. He enjoyed cooking. His homemade spaghetti sauce and baked beans were family favorites. He always asked if his family members were using his recipes. He raised chickens, rabbits and several dogs over the years. He loved playing the guitar for his family; as well.

David was survived by his wife Kathryn (Fishel) Clutter; his sister, Celeste B. Clutter; son, Samuel Clutter of Punxsutawney; daughters, Cindy Westover (Brandon) of Altoona, Janie Carson (David) of Sparta New Jersey, and Kimberly Rager of Clearfield; grandchildren, Braydon "Bubba", Damon, Theodore, Rhianna, Blake, Ben, and Emily; great-grandchildren Alex and Adin.

David was preceded in death by his father Blake W. Clutter; mother, Elizabeth Naomi (Blake) Clutter; son, David Jr.; brothers, Harry "Petey", Herschel "Unc", Larry "Sam", Cecil "Carl", and Roger "Buck"; sisters, Natalie and Virginia "Mae."

Throughout his life, David found joy in camping. In his earlier years, he cherished camping trips while raising his children. He continued this tradition with his wife and grandchildren. These experiences became treasured moments that reflected David's love for spending quality time with those closest to him. He often took his grandchildren for rides on his side by side and his tractor. He also enjoyed monthly breakfasts with former SCI Huntingdon co-worker friends.

A Memorial Service with a military salute will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home, 91 Rose Street, Irvona, 16656, at 1 p.m., with a reception to follow at the Westover Area Volunteer Fire Company 583 West Bridge St, Westover. Guests are encouraged to wear casual clothes or camouflage attire that remind them of hunting season, David's favorite season.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the VFW of Hastings, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 293 Beaver Street, Hastings, PA 16646. David made a special request for this.

Dave was always good natured and fun even in trying situations while working at the prison. Humor is needed and he provided bucket loads, but was a great corrections officer. I'm going to miss him along with everyone who ever worked with "Wild Thing". RIP Dave

Dave was a special person. He was loved by so many at SCIH. He did enjoy our monthly breakfast, bad weather would not stop him from coming. I´m proud to call him a friend. And I had the privilege to have worked with him. He will be missed.
