Dawn Reed Obituary

Dawn Marie (Mostyn) Reed, 57, was unexpectedly welcomed into her eternal rest on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025.

She is the daughter of Edward and Bernadine (Pollock) Mostyn of Hawk Run.

Dawn loved her rescue dogs, who were her everything. She felt strongly about her rescues and felt that she could rescue them, but who rescued who, was the main question. With her unexpected death, her four rescue pups were returned to the SPCA Society. Her wishes would be someone will adopt her rescues.

She grew up in Hawk Run, attended West Branch Schools, graduated from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania and was employed by Weis Market as Assistant Front End Manager for 31 years. She enjoyed the camaraderie with her coworkers. She was an extremely devoted employee who was called to work on frequent occasions as they needed her. She enjoyed her work relationships. She liked to bake with her mom and would frequently bring in baked goodies for the coworkers. Her laughter could be heard in the grocery department frequently.

She enjoyed creating needlework and crafts and would share her talents with her family and friends as gifts. Dawn had a smile a mile wide and would always chat with almost anyone. She could converse and relate well to others.

She attended Ss. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Hawk Run where she grew up and was active with the Choir there. Once that Church closed, she has since attended Ss. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Philipsburg.

At the time of her unexpected death, she was married to Alan Reed of Philipsburg for 31 years.

Besides her parents, she is survived by numerous cousins both in area and out of state who she would keep in touch with.

Friends and family will be received on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. at Strange and Weaver Funeral Service in Morrisdale, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul RC Church, 400 South 4th Street, Philipsburg, with Father Mathias Rendon, O.F.M.

Family requests monetary donations can be a made in her honor to the SPCA Animal Society.

My deepest sympathies to family, friends and co-workers.
I only knew Dawn through shopping at the Philipsburg Weis store for many years. She was always kind, friendly, extremely helpful and patient. If Dawn was summoned to the checkout line for a problem, it was always resolved quickly and to the customer's satisfaction. At the service desk, she always went above and beyond to help the customer.
She would even smile and put up with my frequent stupid jokes.
Now finding out that she rescued pups makes me think even more of her.
I will miss not seeing you at Weis and exchanging "Hi"s.
I will think of you on every trip for groceries, every week.
Take care dear Dawn! Safe travels! I suspect I will see you soon!

My condolences to Dawn's family. Dawn was my favorite person to see and talk with at Weis. She was such a sweet lady. She had a special relationship with my greyhound service dog Seth. He just loved seeing her when we were shopping and she would always stop and talk to us. We will miss our interactions with her. She always made me smile. May you rest in peace, Dawn.

As we walked home from school day after day, year after year, played basketball in her driveway or played with dolls in her playhouse I never once imagined I would be writing this in her memory. I don't have the words to relate to anyone how deeply saddened I am. Mr. and Mrs. Mostyn, may the God of all comfort and healing touch and heal your hearts in your time of brokenness.
