Dennis Folmar Obituary

DAYTON, Ohio - Dennis William Folmar, 76, of Dayton, Ohio, passed peacefully at Ohio Hospice of Dayton on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025. We are so grateful for the wonderful nurses and staff there who made his last days as comfortable as possible.

Dennis was born July 1, 1949 in Morrisdale, the son of the late William Joseph and Elizabeth Ann Folmar. Raised in the beautiful woods and mountains of Central Pennsylvania he loved spending time in nature and was an avid fly fisherman, hiker and hunter.

After graduating from West Branch High School in 1967 he joined the Air Force and worked as a communication technician. That prepared him for his dream job in communications with the FBI. In 1980, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. As the disease progressed, sadly, he was unable to continue his work with the FBI. Always looking forward, he moved to Dayton, Ohio and enrolled at WSU and earned his BA in communications which led to a teaching job at WPAFB.

I can Do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

He referred to MS as a disease of take-aways. A man of great faith with an indomitable spirit he began searching for ways that he could help himself and others with similar afflictions. He read about the complementary healing practice of Reiki. In 1997 he met his soon to be wife, Linda, in a Reiki Level I class and together they began the healing journey. He was a Reiki Master Teacher/Practitioner, a certified practitioner in Healing Touch and EFT, a hypnotherapist, a meditation teacher, and had obtained an online degree in Divinity. In 2002, they opened their Healing Centre, Spirit Touch. Spiritually aligned, he was able to help others reach their highest potential and release the things that were no longer serving them.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Linda Sue Folmar; brothers: Barry Robert Folmar (Ann), Thomas Theodore Folmar (Leesa), and Daniel John Folmar; son: Douglas William Folmar (Melanie); daughter Laura Elizabeth Brockman; son-in-law Wayne Erickson (Mary Beth); stepdaughters: Laura Pauline Frank (Paul Robert), Aimee Kathleen Popov (Scott); stepson John William Arnold (Alicia Pickering); grandchildren: Harry Wayne Erickson, Julie Lopez, Emily Hammond, Andrew Brockman, Lillian Brockman, Dylan Folmar, Vanessa Folmar, Malena Folmar, Michaela Frank, Shayleigh Frank, Andrew Popov, Liam Popov, Katherine Popov, Olyvia Weimer, Haylie Pickering; great-grandchildren: Austin Lopez, Greyson Gower, Esmerelda Gower, Paxton Gower and Liam Roberts; sister-in-law: Sandra Rieder. Dennis was a quiet and deeply intuitive man, who loved his family deeply, but did not always have the words to express that. All of you, please know that you were very important to him.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Beth Erickson; granddaughter, Angel Erickson; his parents, William and Elizabeth Folmar; and sisters, R. Renee Long and Dorothy Fleming.

Services will be held on Nov. 8, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Queen of Apostles Chapel on the grounds at Mt. Saint John, 4400 Shakertown Road, Dayton, OH 45430-1057. There will be a light luncheon to follow just across the drive in Chaminade Hall's Madeleine Room. Please visit www.newcomerdayton.com to leave the family an online condolence.

I went to school at West Branch with Denny...never knew where he went after high school. He lived a wonderful , prosperous life even while battling a life changing condition. My prayers for peace for all who knew and loved him.
