EDNA GEORGE Obituary

HOUTZDALE - Edna Mae George (Brobeck), 89, peacefully passed away on Feb. 14, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, the Honorable Camille "Bud" George, and her son, Jacob William George.

Born on July 12, 1934, in Tyrone, to the late Alice Coffman and the late Orr Brobeck.

She was a graduate of Tyrone High School. After meeting the love of her life, Bud and Edna married in 1952 and began their life together. Edna Mae adored and loved being a mother to her children.

She is survived by Nina Booth (Tom), Candace George Lane, Kim Scott ( Andrew), Edmond George (Danya), and Susan George; her grandchildren, Patrick Booth (Katya), Jamie Brenneman, Jordan Lane (Mo), Meghan Booth Aughenbaugh (Gregory), Christian George, Madison Goas, Alexandra George, Bradley Scott, Brooklyn Scott and Maria Janpoladyan; and great grandchild, Georgie Akl.

Edna was a loving wife, mother and wonderful friend. She always greeted you at home with a warm smile and a table filled with her delicious cooking. Edna enthusiastically embraced her role as a state representative's wife with her commitment to serving her community. She was easily visible walking in the State Capitol's hallways waving and chatting to all she knew.

Edna served as the Judge of Elections for Houtzdale for many years, greeting voters as they arrived. One of her favorite hobbies was gardening. Her beautiful display of flowers graced her yard and her bountiful garden was shared with friends and neighbors. Many may fondly recall her famous jars of pickles and peppers canned from her garden. Over the years, Edna happily donated thousands of loaves of her handmade bread to local churches.

As a talented seamstress, her family proudly modeled her handmade creations. Whether in an apron tending to her home or dressed in a colorful suit at the Bud George Day, Edna topped all her outfits with one of her festive hats.

Edna relished family traditions and holidays whether it be decorating for the holidays or baking her family's favorite cookies. Edna was an exemplary mother and person who embodied the best qualities unconditional love, strength of spirit, faith, humility and unending generosity. She graced all that knew her with her charm and sense of humor. Edna's life was one rich in love, resilience, and a profound positive impact on others. Edna always said her greatest honor and proudest achievement was being a mom to her six children. Edna Mae will forever be loved and missed.

In tribute to Edna Mae George, visitation will be held at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, Feb. 16, 2024 from 6 to 9 p.m.

On Feb. 17, the Rev. Fr. Paul Bigelow will be officiating the service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

I have known Edna for many years. I used to help work both Bud George Dinners and his picnics at Janesville Dam. That is how I met Edna. Through the years, I got to know her better and she was a truly amazing lady. They both went to my pap's 100th birthday party. Likewise, they went to the funeral home when my mom and dad passed away. My mom became disabled later on in her life. Your dad also helped in the fight to get her what she needed. They were both exceptional people. They will be missed but God has gained two wonderful Angels. May God give you all comfort and strength during this difficult time.

Having been the Georges neighbor my entire childhood, i was the beneficiary of many of those peppers and canned goods. She was always pleasant and had a kind word for me when i saw her. The community will never be the same. RIP Mrs George.

She was a wonderful mix of grace, style, humor and personality. In short, we´ve lost A GREAT LADY.
I was a reporter for The Progress so our paths crossed frequently. Once there was an event (I can´t recall what it was) held at the grange that used to be behind the bank in Curwensville. Rep. George was the speaker. Mrs. George invited me to sit with her during the program. Her quick wit and sense of humor were in high gear that night as she riffed on her husband´s speech. I was in stitches and at one point, as we were both giggling hysterically, Rep. George admonished us to be quiet. Tongue in cheek, he said, "If you can´t behave, I´m going to throw you out." She looked at me and said, "Should we behave or just go?" Then everyone laughed.
Such a loss, such an enormous loss. My deepest sympathy.
