Frederick Luther Obituary

HAWK RUN - Frederick Martin Luther, 85, of Hawk Run, passed away surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on Aug. 21, 1940, in Philipsburg, Fred lived a life defined by faith, service, and unwavering devotion to those he cared for.

On Oct. 8, 1966, Fred married the love of his life, Marion (Mehallow) Luther. Together they shared 59 wonderful years of marriage, building a family rooted in love, compassion, and commitment.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Marion, and their three children: Susan Haas (Jeffrey), Mark Luther (Melissa), and David Luther (Debra). He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren, Savanna, Tyler, Tanner, Trever, Madeline, and Charlie, each of whom brought him immense joy.

Fred honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army, spending time in Germany from 1958 to 1961. After his military service, he pursued higher education, graduating from The Pennsylvania State University and earning his Master's Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

He began his teaching career at St. Marys High School, where he first discovered his passion for guiding and mentoring young people. He later continued his career at Clearfield High School, where he taught business courses for 33 years before retiring in 2001. His calm presence, steady guidance, and genuine support left a lasting impression on generations of students.

A devout and active member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Hawk Run, Fred gave generously of his time and talents. He taught catechism classes for many years and assisted wherever he was needed, living out his faith through service.

Fred was also well known throughout the community for his love of athletics. A standout athlete himself, he was recognized at Philipsburg-Osceola for his exceptional football talent. He later coached boys' basketball at both West Branch and Clearfield, mentoring young athletes with patience, encouragement, and a true passion for the game. A devoted sports fan, he loved all things Penn State-especially football, basketball, and wrestling-and proudly supported all Pittsburgh sports teams.

Those who knew Fred will remember him for his patience, kindness, and willingness to help others. He found his greatest joy in time spent with family, especially attending his grandchildren's sporting events and celebrating their accomplishments.

A viewing will be held on Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, from 10-10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Hawk Run. The Funeral Divine Liturgy will follow at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Fred's memory.

Fred Luther will be deeply missed by his family and friends and all who were blessed to know him. May his memory be eternal.
