Patricia A. "Pat" Swanson

1940 - 2025

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - Patricia A. "Pat" Swanson, 85, passed away on Nov. 28, 2025, at CareOne of New Bedford in Mass.

She was born on September 16, 1940, the daughter of John Martel and Levina (Billotte) Martel.

Pat was a mom and caretaker to many including her parents, her husband and any family member or friend that needed her. She was employed as a Teacher's Assistant at the CIU 10 from 1985 - 2003. Before that she was an LPN in Amherst, Ohio and Clearfield Hospitals and well as Hospice.

She was a dedicated patron of the St. Francis Catholic Church where she was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society and a Care and Concern volunteer. Pat was also a member of the Frenchville VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her two children, James E. Swanson II of Moravia, Iowa, and Teresa R. Belliveau and husband Ernie of Fairhaven, Mass.; two grandchildren, Donald J. Swanson and Emma K. Swanson both in Iowa; a brother Ronald J. Martel and wife Eileen of Fairfax, Va.; a brother-in-law, Ronald Swanson of Marysville; three sisters in-law, Sharon Hoffman of Marysville, PA; Kathy Swanson of Zephyr Hills, Fla., and Ginger Swanson of Woodland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. 'Jim' Swanson on Aug. 4, 2017, whom she wed Nov. 6, 1959.

She is also preceded in death by four brothers-in-law, Fred, Claude and Leonard Swanson and Abe Wisor; and two sisters-in-law, Leda Swanson Wisor and Fran Swanson.

A Memorial Mass will be announced for a later date in March 2026 when all family are able to get to Pennsylvania.

Interment will be in the Bradford Cemetery, Woodland.

Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the American Stroke Foundation or The Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation.
