Richard Higgins Obituary

HAMBURG, N.Y. - Richard John Higgins went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Richard was born on March 6, 1929, in Houtzdale, and was the son of Elmer and Mae Vogle Higgins.

On June 14, 1986, in Franklinville, N.Y., he married Phyllis Gaye Bouton, who predeceased him on Jan. 18, 2025.

Richard was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the United States Air Force in 1950-1954. He was a life member of VFW Post 5296 of Salamanca, NY and a member of the American Legion, Post #591 of Houtzdale, for over 60 continuous years.

Richard was a plant manager at The Buffalo Sewer Authority for over 25 years. After he retired from the sewer authority, he worked seasonally for Holimont Ski resort for several years because of his passion for skiing. A true outdoorsman and nature lover, Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving, hiking, and dirt biking. To relax, he loved to watch a good mystery on television or attend a life theater performance. Richard was an avid reader and especially loved reading and studying the Bible.

Richard is survived by his loving stepdaughter, Kimberly M. D'Amaro of Hamburg, N.Y.; close cousins, Shirley Zahuranec, IdaMae Swartz, and Bill and Carol Vogle, all of Philipsburg. He is also survived by other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Richard was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife, Gaye; two brothers, Raymond and Chester; and three sisters, Janie, Helen, and Margaret.

Friends and family will be received at Babbitt & Easton Funeral Home 7 North Main Street, Franklinville, NY 14737 on Sunday, April 6, 2025, from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 2:15 p.m. Later in the spring, burial will be in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Section I, Lot Eastside.
