Robert Gilliland Obituary
Born in Pittsburgh in 1943 to William S. and Elizabeth (Burns) Gilliland, he was proud of his Pennsylvania roots (Go Penn State!).
Bob graduated from Clearfield High School in 1962 and shortly thereafter began his lifelong commitment to his country and public safety when he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962-1966 as a Sergeant during the Vietnam era. After his military service, he proudly served 27 years with The Montgomery County Maryland Police Department. While with the police department he earned a degree in criminal justice from The University of Maryland.
Preceding him in death are his parents; a son, Peter Michael Gilliland; a brother, William H. Gilliland; and a sister, Barbara Farabaugh.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jackie (Pontillo) Gilliland; and two daughters, Elizabeth M. Gilliland McLean (Matthew) and Laura McCarthy Bourgerie. Additionally, seven grandchildren: Kahla Reese (Rathdrum, Idaho), Logan McLean (Plano, Texas), Kelly McCarthy (Chesapeake, Va.), Carter McLean (LIC, N.Y.), Savannah Gilliland (Clearwater, Fla.), John "Jack" McLean (Clearfield) and Olivia "Libby" McLean (Clearfield) and three great-grandchildren: Emma, Avery, and Aurora (Chesapeake, Va.).
There will be no public viewing or services. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangement are under the care of A Wise Choice Crematory C/O Bunker Family Funeral and Cremation in Mesa, Ariz. and the Beardsley Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. of Clearfield.

When our son was in 3rd grade, he was naturalized as a citizen of our country. He needed to have 2 people who were not related in any way to him to attest they had known him for 3 years and was a good candidate for citizenship. Bob was one of those dear people who made it possible for our adopted son to become a US citizen. Our whole family is thankful for Bob´s efforts and confidence in our son´s future.
We have lost touch over these many years, but we will never forget what Bob´s efforts meant to our family.
