Eugene Baker Obituary

Eugene Baker
Waynesboro - Mr. Eugene W. "Gene" Baker, 75, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at his home.
Born October 7, 1945, in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Merle and Mary (Knott) Baker.
Gene eloped with his wife, Mrs. Lyn (Binford) Baker after only three months of courtship and promised each other they would take it one year at a time, and they did, for over 52 years.
Mr. Baker was a graduate of the University of Maryland with a Bachelor's Degree in engineering.
In 1967 he answered his nation's call to service. Gene served honorably in the United States Army, including a deployment to Vietnam.
Gene was an engineer by trade, working with many branches of the armed services. He worked with the Navy at Annapolis, MD, then he worked with the Air Force at Rome, NY, and he retired out of Fort Ritchie and Fort Derrick. He spent 43 years in total working in the engineering field.
Mr. Baker loved to spend time with his family, especially when it came to sharing a meal. Family dinners were always special to him, whether they were at his house, a family member's house, or a picnic at Pen Mar Park. Gene also enjoyed dancing to country music and bowling with his wife.
He was a very active member of the Waynesboro veteran community. Twice he served as Post Commander of the Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, he was a member of the board and quartermaster for the William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, and he was a active member of the Eagles Club Inc.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Carol Kelley, and her husband Todd of Waynesboro, Scott Baker, and his wife Karen of Waynesboro; grandchildren: Ryan Kelley, Megan Kelley, Dakota Baker, Joseph Baker, Grace Baker; siblings: Merle Baker, Jr. of State College, PA, Paul Baker, and his wife Pat, of Kentucky, Douglas Baker of Georgia; siblings-in-law: Ellie Binford of Atlantic Beach, FL, Rick Binford of Hagerstown, MD, Mark Binford, and his wife Susan, of Hagerstown, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday, June 28, 2021 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Gene's honor to the William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, 346 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Bailey, Baker- We always sat next to each other in the many classes where teachers placed us in alphabetical order. I have many fond memories of sharing comments and complaints. He was a good schoolmate. My sympathies are with all of your family.
