David Heim Obituary

June 24, 1934 - Dec. 22, 2006

A Mass of Christian Burial for David Heim, 72, of Fairfield, will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1050 N. Texas St., Fairfield, at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Father Michael Downey will officiate. Interment will be at St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery, 1707 Union Ave., Fairfield.

Dave passed away peacefully at home, due to complications with chronic emphysema and a heart condition.

Dave was born June 24, 1934, in Denver, Colo. He suffered from rheumatic fever at the age of seven, and spent many years at Children's Hospital in Oakland. He recovered and eventually attended St. Vincent Ferrer High School in Vallejo, graduating in 1953 with his twin brother, Daniel.

Dave worked in the accounting department for Southern Pacific Railroad until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. While in the Army, he worked in the finance department and played in the Army band. While being stationed at Dugway Proving Ground near Salt Lake City, Utah, he met his future wife, Carol. After his tour of duty, Dave married Carol in 1962 and moved to Fairfield. He opened Dave's Giant Hamburgers in 1963.

Dave is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carol Heim of Fairfield; daughters, Ellen Gansberg of Wellington, Nev., Lesa Gonzalez of Suisun Valley and Margaret Wright of Smith, Nev.; son, Allan Heim of Novato; sister, Donna Elliott of Mt. Shasta; brother, Daniel Heim of Redding; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three sons-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Margaret Heim; and a brother, Robert Heim.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W. Texas St., Fairfield.

Endowment donations may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Fairfield; or to St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School of Vallejo, in Dave's name.

Dear Family
My hearfelt sympathies for your loss. He will truly be missed by many more people than you'll ever know. His life was/is a celebration of service to others in how he truly cared about the people in his life. Without him and you Mrs. Heim, I would have been one lost little kid, but you all took me into your home with true love. His life is truly one to celebrate!
Lots of love and prayers

Dear Carol, Allan, Ellen, Lesa and Margaret,

I am so sorry for your loss. Dave was a great husband and father. I'll always remember the first day I met him... Fall of 1972 after what would seem to be during my first week at Holy Spirit School in the fifth grade! That would also hallmark my first Giant Heimburger. I always found it an honor to know Dave and all of you personally and to have worked for him at the Rockville Inn. Our families had so much fun together carpooling, picnicing and swimming in the early years. All those good times and eats I'll always remember. I am praying for you and know that our Lord Jesus will help you through this tragic and difficult time.

With my deepest condolences,
Love always,

We were very sad to hear of Dave's passing. We've been in Fairfield/Suisun for 29 years and have eaten Dave's Giant HEIMburgers for 29 years! Ever since our very first visit Dave has made us laugh with his quick wit and dry humor. He will be dearly missed. Our sympathies to the Heim family.

Dear Carol and Family, The Knott Family sends our thoughts and prayers to you all in this time of sorrow. Dave will be greatly missed but I know he and dad are together probably fishing or playing chess.

I just happened to come across Dave's obituary today and was saddened to hear of his death. My cousin and I worked for Dave at Dave's Hamburgers back in the late 80's when my now "20" year old daughter was just a baby. He'll be missed.

It was very sad for us to learn of Dave's demise. We first met Dave and Carol when they moved into a home next door (east) to us in the early 1960's in Fairfield. Subsequently, Dave and Carol moved; however Dave's parent purchased the home on the west side of our home and we'd have the opportunity to visit with Dave and Carol when they'd visit Dave's parents. We've met, conversed and enjoyed the Heim family in our many years in Fairfield.
May the love you feel for Dave lessen your sorrow. Our thoughts are with you in this time of sorrow.
