Diego Ramos Garcia, 84 of Vacaville, met his creator and was reunited with his father and mother, Francisco and Juana Garcia, as well as his beloved uncle, Andres Garcia, on Friday, June 4, 2021. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family. His memory will be kept alive by his adoring family. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Maria Campoy Garcia; sister-in-law, Juana Perez; and brothers-in-law, Juan Campos and Andy Perez. He was the devoted father of two sons, Frank (wife Mari Carmen) and Manolo Garcia (wife Shelley). He was the proud "Papi Diego" of Nicole, Kyle, Jesse Diego, Stella, Lorenzo, and Sophie; caring "Chacho" to many nieces and nephews, including Frank C. (daughters Amanda and Rachel), Juani (sons Alex and Carlos), Anna (daughter Emily), and Mari (sons Andy and Marco) who he loved like his own children. Diego was born on Wednesday, May 26, 1937, in the small pueblo of Cariatiz-Sorbas, Almeria, Spain. His father, Francisco left to fight in the Spanish Civil War shortly after his son's birth, and unfortunately became a casualty of the war. This left Diego to be raised by his mother, Juana and his grandfather, also named Diego. As a child he spent most of his time working the land and raising livestock. He apprenticed as a barber in Almeria, a profession he would continue practicing all his life amongst family and friends. Later he came to America in search of a better life for his family, and for a short time worked as a sheepherder in the state of Washington and then a miner in California, Arizona and New Mexico. He settled in Vacaville with his family and worked at the iconic Nut Tree and then American Home Foods until his retirement. His life was fulfilled with many hobbies. He had a green thumb and enjoyed growing prized tomatoes, other vegetables, and a variety of fruit trees for his family to enjoy. He was an expert at grafting trees. A talented singer, he could often be heard singing one of his favorite Spanish songs by Antonio Molina at parties and holiday gatherings. Music was a very important part of his life, and once he learned how to use Spotify on his smart phone, the sound of Spanish singers was always projecting from his shirt pocket where he carried his phone. He enjoyed cooking and experimenting with recipes. Raising canaries and goldfinches was another passion of his for many years.Family gatherings were his favorite moments. He loved spending time with his sons, grandchildren, and extended family which always revolved around a variety of Spanish dishes. He could always be counted on to tell stories from his childhood, share a Spanish saying at just the right moment, and keep everyone laughing with his endless jokes. Wherever he went, laughter would follow him; even hours before his passing, his humor filled his hospital room with laughter as he told priceless stories. His happy spirit and love for life will always be remembered by everyone he touched.Friends and family are invited to Diego's vigil on Wednesday evening, June 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. and Catholic Rosary from 7 to 8 p.m. at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St., Vacaville. Church services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 350 Stinson Ave., Vacaville, on Thursday morning, June 10, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Fairmont Memorial Park, 1901 Union Ave., Fairfield.
