Geraldine Gant Obituary
Oct. 22, 1927 - Nov. 24, 2015
Our beautiful mom, Geraldine Louise Gant of Pinole, gained her angel wings and passed away with family by her side on Tuesday morning, Nov. 24.
Gerry was born on Oct. 22, 1927, in Columbus, OH. She independently traveled to California as a teenager to work for the government during WWII. In 1944, she met the love of her life, George, at a USO dance hall in Oakland. After professing their love for each other in many letters exchanged across the Pacific Ocean during George's tour of duty in WWII, they married Aug. 24, 1946, at Chapel of the Chimes, Piedmont. They remained loving, dancing partners for 68 1/2 years, until George's passing March 4, 2015. Throughout her life, "Ger", as George fondly called her, was always able to readily recite his US Navy ship name and his serial number.
Gerry worked for Lockheed for several years before leaving to do what she considered her most important work as a stay-at-home mom. She took a part-time job at Pinole Valley High School, when her son Jeff was a senior, which allowed her to be at home with her children. Family was always first.
After Gerry and George's retirement, they enjoyed spending time RV'ing with special friends. Gerry loved to dance, travel, golf, bingo, and watch sports. She developed longtime friendships with the Chatelaine's ladies and their husbands. Her love of animals was beyond compare. She genuinely loved people and brought immeasurable joy and laughter to her family and friends. Her biggest enjoyment and love was her family and spending her life with George. She supported, participated in, and never missed Jennifer, Jeff, Nicole, and Chris' activities and functions throughout their lives.
Gerry will be remembered for her sweetness, never having a bad word to say about anyone; positive attitude about everything in life; and her infectious wit and sense of humor. The funny stories are never ending. She was a strong little French woman, small but fiercely independent.
Preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, Paul and Martha Frazelle; sister, Pat Cooper who helped her maneuver through life when they lost their parents at a young age; Aunt Betty and Uncle Ralph Bonness; and her special kitty "Spot".
Survivors include her children, Jennifer, Jeff, his wife Leslie (Gerry's "daughter" of 37 years); proud grandmother to Nicole and Chris; along with a number of nieces and nephews, as well as, a lifetime of great friends and co-workers with whom she had many fond memories and laughs. Thank you to the many friends who provided loving support to mom, dad, and our family throughout the years; Kaiser Permanente's Physicians, Nurses, Staff, Home Health and Hospice Programs; Cornerstone Assisted Living Facility management team and staff; and special thank yous to lifelong friend Jackie Meiers-Rubin who was there for them and our family when we needed her most; and to Dorothy Aschenbrenner who gave selflessly of her time and loved and cared for mom and dad as her own. Mom was pampered and loved by her Friday "glam squad" - caregiver Terri, hairdresser Amber, and manicurist Chelsea.
A private interment will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, where Gerry will be laid to rest with George. It only seems fitting there will be a joint celebration of life for George and Gerry at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an organization of your choice supporting Animal Rescue, including but not limited to "ARF", "SPCA".
Give dad a big hug from us and enjoy your sweet reunion, dancing into eternity!
