James E. "Andy" Anderson Sr.

1933 - 2018

July 9, 1933 - April 16, 2018 Chief Anderson, a 27 year veteran of the US Air Force died on Monday, April 16, in Fairfield. He was born on July 9, 1933 to Edd and Bernice Anderson in Hayesville, NC. A native of Hayesville, NC, he lived in Fairfield for 56 years. He served in the US Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired, with the rank of Chief Master Sargent, from Travis AFB in June of 1979, as the Propulsion Branch Aircraft Engine Maintenance Chief. Among his many decorations and awards, he received a Bronze Star Medal during his tour of duty in Vietnam in 1969-1970. He worked for the General Electric Company Aircraft Engine Division, as a GE Aircraft Engine Technical Field Service Representative for 15 years, retiring from GE in August of 1993 in Honolulu, HI. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield. He volunteered much of his time for the vital work programs around the parish. Andy is survived by his wife, Rita Carson Anderson, married for 62 years; his children, James Anderson, Jr. (Pat), Brenda Anderson (Randy), and Susan Anderson-Dickenson (John); granddaughter, Serenity Dickenson; sister, Marjorie McMillan (Dan) of McDonough, GA; brother-in-law, William Carson of Sewickley, PA and Joey (Service Dog Poodle). Preceded in death by his father, Edd Anderson; mother, Bernice Anderson; brothers, Kenneth Anderson, Dallis Anderson, and Morris Anderson. Visitation will be Sunday, April 22, from 5 to 8 p.m., with Rosary being said at 6 p.m., at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, April 23 at 11 a.m., at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1070 N. Texas St., Fairfield, with burial immediately following.
