A Mass for Julie Claryce Richie, 91, of Vacaville, will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home, 524 Elmira Road, Vacaville.
Father Bill Feeser will officiate. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery in St. Paul, Minn.
Mrs. Richie passed away Oct. 26, 2006, in Vacaville. She was born Dec. 4, 1914, to Felippo and Eufrosina Sciullo in Wisconsin.
Mrs. Richie had resided in Vacaville for the last seven years.
Her life was one of service to her fellow man. Fluent in Spanish she joined the Peace Corps in the early '60s where she was stationed in Venezuela. A devout Catholic, she was the private secretary for the Archbishop in St. Paul, Minn., for many years. She taught CCD for more than 25 years and was the Stillwater Deanery president. For years she worked with the library literacy program tutoring countless men and women, and even up until her passing, had been helping a student for the past four months, changing her life for the better just like those before her.
Mrs. Richie was a certified master gardener, avid reader and made the best raviolis in her family. Her kind, gentle and giving ways will live on in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Richie is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth "Bette" (Jerry) Blomquist of Vacaville; son, Alfred (Marilyn) Richie of Minnesota; four grandchildren, Julie (John) Ashmore of Antioch, Teresa Garner of Benicia, Michael (Jennifer) Blomquist of Brea and John Blomquist of Las Vegas; seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Zachary, Ross, MacKenzie, Joshua and Gretchen; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jeremiah.
Contributions may be made to an organization dear to her heart: The Rev. Peter J. Klink S.J., Red Cloud Indian School, 100 Mission Drive, Pine Ridge, S.D. 57770.

PEACE PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love
For it is in giving that we receive
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
We, the members of the St. Thomas More Fraternity of Inver Grove Heights, MN, have been greatly blessed to have had Julie Richie as our beloved sister in St. Francis. Julie’s life as a Secular Franciscan began in 1971. For the period of one year she prepared by studying the gospels, the Catholic Church, the life and examples of our founding father St. Francis, and the Rule of the Secular Franciscan Order. All was done with prayer and blessings from God.
Julie made a permanent lifetime commitment to live the gospel life, following Christ in the footsteps of St. Francis. This beautiful ceremony, known as profession, is a public and ecclesial act that takes place within the Mass. Julie and the St. Thomas More Fraternity celebrated her profession into the Secular Franciscan Order on Feb. 15, 1972 at the Church of St. Patrick in Inver Grove Hts, MN. Thirty four plus years. Well done, true and faithful servant of the Lord.
God bless all of Julie’s family. With love and prayers from her sisters and brothers of the St. Thomas More Fraternity.
May she rest in peace!
Amen.

"J.R" has been so much, to us, for so many years. Neighbor, trusted friend, voice of experience, "master" gardener, social warrior, and a true citizen of our world.
We have REALLY missed her, since she left Newport, and have always looked forward to her updates at Christmas time.
We knew that, one day, Julie would no longer be "with us", and we would like her family to know that she has always "lived" in our hearts.
Her love, sense of humor, integrity, hunger for knowledge, and reverance for life remained with us, when she moved to Vacaville, and we continue to "pass it on"!
Until we meet again, J.R. -
ROCK ON!!
With Love - Linda & David Zahn

At age 87(born 1919), I am Julia'oldest living relative. I spent my summers with her when I was 6,7,8,& 9 years old on her father(my grandfather), Philip Schullo's (Sciullo) farm in Comstock, Wisconsin. She left the farm by 1929 for the big cities of MSP & STP. I hiked, fished, drove the cattle herd, milked cows, cranked the cream separator, pumped water, played in the hayloft with her and shared many other activities. She was 5 years older than I was, but she was the aunt nearest my age. She and Jerry took care of my 4-year old #1 son, Philip, on their Stacy fsrm when our #3 was born. In the farm years, even though she was a girl, she was my role model. In my value system, she was a "tough broad", a term I use as an accolade for women that can cope with life's adversities and contribute under stress....arrividerci, felix perry
