Loretta Kent Obituary

July 26, 1947 - Nov. 13, 2010

Mom went home to our Lord on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 8:36 a.m. after an almost two-year battle with cancer.

She was born on July 26, 1947, in Oakland, Calif., and resided the past 30 years in Vacaville.

In her working years, Loretta was a correctional officer with the state of California, California Medical Facility in Vacaville for 17 years. Thereafter, she was a private security officer for 2 1/2 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Tami Male and husband, Tom of Oregon; son, Dale and his wife, Cara, of Vacaville; two granddaughters, Anna Marie and Charlotte Jane; sister, Billie Clough of Martinez; brother, Alfred Wayne Cooper of Riddle, Ore.; and a countless number of other family and friends.

Mom touched many lives and was loved a great deal. May she always be remembered in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, Nov. 27, from 12 to 6 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign War Building on Merchant Street.

All arrangements are by Nadeau Family Funeral Home, 455-7700. Visit our guest book at www.nadeaufuneralhome.com.

I always enjoyed your company, no matter how brief the conversation, we always shared a laugh and I would have a smile on my face when I left. Working in prison it wasn't always easy. Although I haven't seen you in years, I will miss you. I will always remember your smile and infectious laugh. I can hear them now as though it were yesterday. I am sad the world has lost such a wonderful person, but I am glad you are at peace. My sincere condolences to your family.

I was glad to have met Officer Kent because there aren't too many of us(Kents) on this side of the world. We used to make a little joke and call each other sister. But what I loved about her most was her big beautiful smile and her hearty laugh. It would just brighten the most dreary of days in that prison. May God strengthen the family in their time of need. My deepest sympathy. R. Kent (Sacramento Ca.)

I knew Loretta from the Town Center Library. She always had a smile and a twinkle in her eye. I teased her about the "dangers" of working security at the library. She acknowledged me and made it seem as if we are all in a community. I will miss her and I am sorry for your loss.

I would like to extend my love and sympathy to the family of Loretta Kent. She was soooo much fun! She was the security guard at the Vacaville Town Square Library where I worked, and everybody loved her so much! She had a wonderful sense of humor and had a wonderful way with people. At the same time, she was a great comfort, because she did her job well and looked after patrons and staff, keeping any trouble at bay. My grandaughter, Kristy, thought the world of her as well and she was always good for a kind word and a hug for Kristy when she came to the library to do her studies. It wasn't quite the same when it was her day off, and when she got sick and had to leave, a certain element of joy left as well. Loretta loved her family so much! She sparkled when she spoke of her children and grandbabies! Loretta had a reverence for God and a strong faith, which she shared. Loretta was strong and courageous and loved, and loving...she made the world a better place with her presence. It seemed to come easy. Loretta! You were one cool lady! You may be gone to another shore, but your essence simply "twinkles" here and there where warm memories of you remain...thank you for those memories...much love...Jenny and Kristy
