Sheryl Williams Obituary

Sheryl Ann Williams lost her battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) on Sunday, March 14. She was 61 years old. She passed away at home surrounded by her family. She gallantly fought this disease for two years and was always positive, upbeat, and an inspiration about tackling her condition. She was born Sheryl Mininger in Vallejo on November 12, 1959. She met her future husband of 40 years, Greg Williams, at Hogan Senior High School in Vallejo. She attended Heald Business College in Sacramento and began working at Bank of America. In 1981 she and Greg were married in Sacramento.Sheryl always had a strong work ethic. She worked in the marketing field at Western Community Money Center, Montage Printing, and Cal America Savings and Loan in Walnut Creek. She started her own business transcribing court documents, depositions, and medical reports before taking a position with the City of Vacaville at the Community Services Department in 1999. She then worked for the Police Department's Domestic Violence Unit, and finally moved to the position of Administrative Assistant to the Vacaville Fire Chief, always with a smile, a can-do attitude, and an eye for the details. She championed department events such as the annual Kid Fest, fire station open houses, Merriment on Main, the grand opening of Fire Station 75, graduations, and awards ceremonies. She supported three different fire chiefs before retiring in 2019. She loved her "Fire Family," both on the job and off. During her battle with ALS, her Fire Family was always there to help her.She enjoyed being with her family and friends and was just beginning her world travel experiences in Europe, making dear friends along the way. She was involved with her kids as they were growing up with any endeavor they pursued, from team mom to award parties and carpools. She looked forward to being with her two grandchildren, Bailey and Jacob. She is survived by her husband, Greg; daughter, Megan; son, Kyle; and daughter-in-law, Julie. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Violet Mininger and brothers, Jim and Gary Mininger. There will be a private internment. At this time services are undetermined.

I had the privilege of running into Sheryl at numerous fire events. She was always friendly and continued to make me feel like part of the Fire Department Family years after I retired. So sorry for your loss.
