"She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her."
Shirley Mae Ruble, 66, went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 17. She was born in San Jose to her loving parents, Clarence and Frances Rodrick. In 1955, she married the love of her life, Donnie Dale Ruble. They relocated to Fairfield, and began their life together.
Over the next 50 years, Shirley made Fairfield/ Suisun her home. She helped run the family business until the passing of her beloved husband. While raising her four children, she worked as a bank teller and in 1984, moved to Suisun and began her 18-year career in real estate. She then became a real estate broker and retired in 2002. Shirley was very business minded. At one time she owned five homes, four of which were rental properties.
Shirley was a loving mom and grandma who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. You could find her on any given Sunday, watching a football game or talking on the phone to friends. Shirley had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. She will be missed by those surviving her; son, Steven W. Ruble of Suisun; daughter, Donna Sholberg-Ruble of Suisun; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Stephanie Ruble of Elk Grove; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Warren Littlefield of Roseville; sister, Nancy Shannon of Santa Rosa; five grandchildren, Brook and Blake Sholberg, Donnie Ruble, Jody McLoed, Elijah Ruble and Aaron Ruble as well as her very dear friend and business partner, Margaret Gallagher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Ruble (1977); son, Jeffery Ruble (1988); and granddaughter, Brittany Sholberg (1990).
A visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Fairfield. Interment will follow at St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery, Fairfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hannah Boys Center, P.O. Box 100, Sonoma 95476.

I grew up three doors down from the Ruble family. I have so many fond memories that include Shirley. She always came across as cool and laid back, even when we kids were up to no good (which was fairly often, as I recall). As an adult I valued her advice as much as her infectious sense of humor. Shirley will be missed my all who knew and loved her.

Grandma Shirley will be forever missed. Donna and I are lifetime friends that raised our kids together and a lot of memories at Shirleys house. Grandma Shirley's house was always a fun place to share laughs and wise cracks. Of course, Shirley always had the funniest remarks that would have you laughing hysterically. Donna, we all wish you and your family our deepest condolescences. She was and always will be in our hearts.
Love,
Duana Berthoux & family

To a better place you were taken, no more pain to awaken. At peace and free, of the burdens of we. Your soul has been called to rest. To all that knew you, you were simply the best.

Shirley has been a good neighbor for many, many years.
I often wondered why she never called on me when it came time for building repairs and contracting work even though she would at times bring me over to the house and ask questions as to how something had been done.
One day we were looking at the little covering at the front gate and she said: Gary, I never asked you to do a thing here because you were my good quiet neighbor and I never wanted an excuse to yell at you. She said that she was often picky about the work she wanted and she wanted to be able to yell at someone if they did bad work, then said: not meaning you would have done bad work. I told her sometimes it was better to hire someone across town and not to worry about it.
She will be missed.

Everyone loved Shirley. When I was a kid Shirley was my mother's friend. Later in life, I counted her as my friend too and we could easily spend an hour or more yacking away on the phone. I'll never forget her crazy sense of humor or the way she would interject with
"ANYWAY" when she was trying to get
back to some long-lost point.
Shirley was a great lady and a true
friend. I'll miss her dearly.

I grew up with the Ruble family and Steve was closest to me in age. My sisters were friends with Donna. Shirley was the friendliest lady and the best neighbor anyone could have. She will be missed. May she rest in peace.
