Herbert K. Schlegel

1937 - 2023

Herbert K. Schlegel, 85, of Lansdale, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023. He was the cherished husband of Rosemary (Burns) Schlegel. Born February 14, 1937 in Kulpsville, he was a son of the late Nicholas and Mayme (Brunner) Schlegel. Herbert served in the United States Army Reserves National Guard as a sergeant. For 35 years he dedicated his time as an employee of the US Postal Service. After retiring from the Postal Service, he worked for Fres-Co for 15 years. Herbert served his local community in many capacities. Most notably, he served as Mayor of North Wales and he was an associate member of the North Wales Fire Company. He was also a social member of the Lansdale VFW and was a member of the Historical Society of North Wales. Herbert was also a member of St. Rose of Lima Church for over 60 years. Rosemary and Herbert loved to travel the world, especially Europe, and often enjoyed cruising. A favorite pastime was engaging as an avid reader, especially in history books and playing pool. He will be forever remembered as a kind, generous and faithful father, brother, and most especially, husband. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Michael Schlegel (Kathleen) of Stephens City, VA, Mark Schlegel (Amy) of Lansdale, Brian Schlegel (Sandra) of Geneva, IL; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son, Kenneth, his partner, Larry Roush, and 12 siblings. Relatives and friends may call between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Huff and Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Avenue, Lansdale, PA 19446. A second visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 between 10:00 and 10:45 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church, 428 S. Main Street, North Wales, PA 19454, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Greenlawn Cemetery, Allentown Road and Sumneytown Pike, Lansdale, PA. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale, PA.
