Joanne L. Matthews

1936 - 2021

Joanne Louise Matthews (Kapusta), of North Wales, PA passed away on September 2, 2021.  Born at Grandview Hospital in Sellersville, PA February 11, 1936 to Mida Mildred (Mithcell) Matthews Byron and John Matthews.  Grew up in North Wales and was a graduate of North Wales High School.  Survived by 3 sons, John A. Kapusta, Jr. (June McIlhenny) of North Wales, Kenneth M. Kapusta of Sellersville, PA and James M. Kapusta of Hyannis, MA.  Grandson, Nicholas M. Kapusta (Lauren A. Marsh) of Lansdale, PA.  Granddaughter, Anna V. Kapusta (Argenis E. Cotto-Santiago) of Hyannis, MA.  Great Granddaughter, Leela Kapusta Cotto-Santiago. Special cousins Andy and Jennie Bengtson Pettit of Ponte Vedra Brach, FL.  Many other cousins and special friends. Her sons and grandchildren were “TOPS” on her list and in the early year of raising her sons, she returned to the working world creating a career  spanning over 15 years selling Heavy Construction & Aerial Lift Equipment in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, followed by 20 years in Real Estate listing and selling homes with Roach Brothers in Blue Bell, PA and in the sale of new construction homes with K. Hovnanian in suburban Philadelphia area.  Her interests were varied and many.  She was chairperson with the Philadelphia IVB Golf Classic and traveled to Western Open, Chicago, IL & West Chester Classic, NY to recruit for the local classic, and also volunteered at the Senior Open at Saucon Valley, PA.  She continued to volunteer at The Players Tournament, at Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL through 2017.  Chairperson of 6 All Student North Wales High School reunions from 1990 through 2018.  She previously served on HARB,  helped with many community events in North wales Borough and worked at the voting polls until 2015.  Funeral Mass Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church 424 S. Main St. North Wales, PA 19454.  Relatives and friends are invited to the Church Saturday after 10 AM.  Interment Whitemarsh Memorial Park. Contributions may be made in her memory to Mesothelioma Research at the University of Pennsylvania 3400 Civic Center Boulevard, Building 421, Philadelphia, PA 19104 or the SPCA, 19 East Ridge Pike, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
