Loretta Worthington Obituary

LORETTA WORTHINGTON Loretta Laura (Malack) Worthington, born March 26, 1929 in Lansdale, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2012 after a lengthy, courageous battle with Alzheimer's at the age of 83. Wife of 65 years this June to Samuel James Worthington, Laura resided at "Lone Pine Farm" on Limekiln Pike in Prospectville since 1953. Daughter of Saverio and Rosa Migliaccio, Laura was raised in Lansdale. Laura met her future husband, Jim, in June of 1946 and was married the following year June 7, 1947. Laura's life's work was dedicated to being a great mother and wife. She not only raised her own family of three children, Karen Diener of Horsham, Debbie Herbert of Warminster, and Jim Worthington of Newtown, but also provided a home for her brother-in-law, John "Jack" Worthington for 28 years. Laura will always be remembered for opening her home and hosting family and friends as well as her children's friends all the time. A tremendous cook, "Nan Nan" prided herself on maintaining a spotless home. She excelled at gardening, crafts, baking, and entertaining. The best days of her life were spent with her husband at their home in Ocean City, NJ, during her later years where she loved to ride bikes, walk the boards, sit on the beach, and do day trips to Atlantic City. Most days included hosting family and friends ending with Laura cooking a spaghetti dinner. Finally, Laura dedicated many years to Horsham Little League where she ran the snack stand as well as volunteering for Hatboro Horsham Alumni Association events. Laura requested, prior to her death, that a scholarship in her name be created to help further the education of those Hatboro Horsham female students who were looking to pursue a degree in Home Economics or similar studies. Besides her husband, Jim, and three children, Laura is survived by one daughter-in-law, Kathy; nine grandchildren, Chris, Brent, Kelly, and Jocelyn Spinieo, Deirdre, Jason, and Seth Diener, and Jim and Jack Worthington. Laura was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lisa (Diener) Mancuso. Born into a family of seven brothers, Laura is survived by Niles, Henry, Manuel, and Frank, and preceded in death by Joe, Paul, and Leonard. Relatives and friends may call Thursday 6 to 8PM at Louis Swift Plunkett Funeral Home, 529 N. York Rd., Hatboro. Funeral Mass will be 10AM Friday at St. Joseph Church, County Line and Easton Rds, Warrington with no morning viewing. Interment will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Horsham. In lieu of flowers, Laura had requested donations to be made to the "Loretta Worthington Scholarship Fund" 1081 Creamery Road, Newtown, PA 18940.

Thoughts and prayers from Nick & Deb & Lynn Malack for the best Aunt anyone could ever ask for. I can remember like it was yesterday every Sunday Aunt Laura having to cook for her 7 brothers and their families, with never a gripe or complain. Please Lord, give Aunt Laura a few weeks of rest, which she deserves and then have her make you the best Pasta you ever ate. You will always be in my heart Aunt Laura, Rest in Peace..Love Nick
