Spinieo of Horsham, and Jocelyn L. Spinieo of Horsham, his precious grandchildren, Mason E. Spinieo and Isabella L. Spinieo, and his sibling, Brian Herbert and his wife Kathy. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Leo N. Herbert, Carol Ann Herbert, and Margaret Herbert, and his nephews Eric McCarthy and Joe McCarthy. Michael graduated from Hatboro-Horsham Senior High School in 1973. He was named All Bux-Mont League Football 1st Team linebacker and All-Area 1st Team linebacker. He is being posthumously inducted into the Hatboro-Horsham Athletic Hall of Fame this fall. He received a bachelor degree in education from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. His outstanding achievements were recognized by his induction into Dana College's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. Michael dedicated his life to coaching and helping others. He began his career in 1977 as an assistant coach at Hatboro-Horsham Senior High School under Dennis Steinly. His coaching career at Wissahickon High School began in 1978 as an assistant Varsity football coach. Michael was named head football coach in 1983, making him the youngest person heading a football program in Montgomery County. By his retirement in 1991, Michael led his team to the All-Suburban One American Conference title in 1989 and he was named head coach of the Montgomery County All-Star Team in 1988. From 1993-2010, Michael continued his career as Director of Admissions at Thompson Institute/Kaplan University in Philadelphia. He was extremely passionate about his work at Thompson and committed to the employees. During this time he established meaningful friendships, which was one of the highlights of his professional career. Michael and his family are extremely grateful for the support and compassion they received from the Thompson organization and Corporate Leaders. Relatives and friends will be received by his family from 6 to 8PM Friday and 8:30 to 10:30AM Saturday at Schneider Funeral Home, 431 N. My first day of High School I walked into his class by accident. He took the time to tell me how the schedule works and pointed me in the right direction. Later that year I found out he was one of my wrestling coaches and had the privilege to get know him. He was a special person and coach.

Herb was a great man, my sincerest thoughts and prayers to the family. Herb was rock solid in his dedication to his students and players on and off the football field. We will miss you Coach Herb.

Mike Herbert was truly a 'man for others'and will be missed. During his time at Wissahickon High School, his dedication and efforts on behalf of his students and his football players was without equal. The educational and football opportunities presented to his players was a result of the countless hours Mike spent contacting schools, preparing tapes, and even taking the young men to visit the schools. It was also Mike Herbert's tireless efforts, along with several other outstanding high school football coaches, that saved the Montgomery County All-Star Football from extinction back in the late '80's.
Debbie and the family are losing a husband, father, and grandfather who had a profound impact on so many people. He will be missed but his memory will always be cherished.
