Ralph Donald Bitting

RALPH BITTING Ralph Donald Bitting, 96, of New Rochelle, NY and formerly of Lansdale, passed away November 11, 2013. He was the husband of the late Ida (Virgilio) Bitting with whom he enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Born July 3, 1917 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Ralph Lee and Leila May (Stiteler) Bitting. Ralph was a member of the United States Navy, serving proudly on the U.S.S. San Diego as a Machinist's Mate First Class during World War II. He later resided in the Lansdale area where he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was employed as a meat cutter for A&P, from where he retired. An avid auction goer, Ralph enjoyed attending local auctions and flea markets where he collected clocks and antiques. He could also be found dabbling in woodworking or spending time outdoors where he enjoyed birding and working in the yard. He will be dearly missed. Surviving are his children, Donna L. Bitting and her husband, Rudy Squillante, of New Rochelle, NY and John R. Bitting and his wife, Karen, of Lansdale; and three grandchildren, Gwendolyn Limbach, and Jack and Luke Bitting. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frederick E. Bitting and his sister, Mercedes Virginia Bitting. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family from 9 to 10AM, Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, followed by the funeral service at 10AM. Interment will follow in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ralph's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 399 Market St., Ste. 202, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
