Sara Wicks Obituary

Sara R. (Raco) Wicks, 78, of Skippack, Pa., passed away at home on December 11, 2016. She was married for 59 years to her husband Jay. Sara and Jay also lived in nearby Harleysville for many years. Sara was born in Johnstown, Pa and the daughter of the late Frank and Pauline (Gabbia) Raco. Sara was employed by the Hotel Tremont and the American Olean Tile in Lansdale, Pa. After retirement, Sara worked part time at various retirement communities as well as day care centers for young children. Sara was a member of the Advent Lutheran Church. She loved gardening and working outdoors with her flowers and plants. She also enjoyed walking, spending time with her family and friends. Sara was the Queen Mother to a Red Hat Society Chapter, The Marvelous Mesdames of the Meadows. She enjoyed the fun-filled activities with the charter members. In addition to Sara’s husband she is survived by her two sons, Michael and wife Tina of Spring Hill, Fla, Mark and wife Sharon, of Quakertown, Pa, and daughter Melinda (Mindy) Hale and husband Bruce of Franconia, Pa; her brothers Frank Raco and his wife, Marion, Fred Raco and his wife, Judy; her sister, Mary Mastovitch; her grandchildren, Krystin Hale Curry, Brett Hale, Brittany and Nikki Wicks and many nieces and nephews. Sara was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Services will be private. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106, www.alz.org.
