Stephen Schwille Obituary

Stephen G. Schwille, age 63, died May 24, 2014, after a brave fight against ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Stephen was born in Schenectady, NY and grew up in Roanoke, VA. He was the cherished son of the late Charles Elwin Schwille and the late Wilhelmina Eberle Schwille. Stephen was the beloved husband of Regina ("Jeanie") Maxwell Schwille. He was treasured by his stepmother, Thelma Athey Schwille, and his sister, Kathryn Schwille (Thomas Lucas). He was the loving brother-in-law of John Maxwell (Mary Ann), Kate Maxwell (Jim McGorman), and Helene Maxwell (Randy Kasten). He was cherished by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Stephen was a 1972 graduate of Virginia Tech, with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. He had an aerospace career of 37 years, which began at General Electric and continued at Martin Marietta. He retired from Lockheed Martin Corporation in 2009. Stephen was passionate about airplanes from the age of three. He had his first flying lessons with the Blue Ridge Soaring Society in Newcastle, VA , soloing in a sailplane at 14. He flew both sailplanes and single-engine aircraft. He was a member of the Philadelphia Glider Council for over 40 years, and was a former president and chief tow pilot. His flying friends were his forever friends and Stephen's family is grateful for their love and support. Stephen's family is thankful, too, for the marvelous care he received from his Bayada team and Holy Redeemer Hospice.
