Chester Dale Allman, known affectionately as Chet to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on October 26, 1940, in
Columbus, Indiana, the son of the late Bertha and Henry Allman, Chet's spirit and smile made him a kind and gentle man to everyone in the room.
Chet's early life in Edinburgh was filled with the simple joys of Indiana living. As a young man, he developed a love for patriotism and his country to the degree of him fibbing about his age, to join the United States Navy. Chet enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17.
It was in serving our country that birthed Chet's love for travel. This developed a career as a truck driver that was more than just a job; it was an adventure that on occasion, occurred with his children. Chet's love for trucking was so profound that he occasionally delighted in sneaking one of his children into the back of his truck, in the sleeper, for a cross-country trip. He would often tell the kids to be quiet while in the sleeper, but that became a joke as they would bounce off the mattress springs in the walls with a loud thud. His CB radio handle, "Allman JOY," was a playful nod to his surname and the joy he took in his work. A truck driver with a funny personality and a smile of a dad, that said, JOY!!
Chet was a devoted family man. It has been said that Chet was a simple man, only needing the simple things that life had to offer. It was in Chet's later years in life that he found great peace in being a member of the Apostolic's of Beech Grove church. Chet was raised in the Apostolic Faith and never forgot the lasting roots, planted by his parents and family.
During retirement years you could find Chet gathering his children and grandchildren for card games, where laughter and friendly competition were abundant. These card games were more than just pastimes; they were a testament to Chet's commitment to family and his desire to create lasting bonds and memories that would out-live him.
Chet's legacy is one of love, dedication, and the simple pleasures of life. This simple man's presence with his family will forever be, a cherished memory.
He is survived by his children, Cyndi (John) Taaffe of Fontana, CA; Debbie (John) Trammell of Trafalgar, IN; John (Rhonda) Allman of Edinburgh, IN; and Daylin (Brandon) Sims of Indianapolis, IN; siblings, Richie Allman, Lola (Ron) Anderson, and Donna Henson; grandchildren, Richard Germansen, Chris (Natalie) Germansen, Breana (Nigel) Miles, Alicia (Chris) Wilson, Alexia (Casey) Taylor, Julia (Rob) Spurgeon, Braden (Hannah) Allman, Shana (Sean) Cappel, Mary (Dakota) Bowers, Nikki Landis, Anne Keel, Dorsie Sims, Cameron Sims, and Becca Rae Sims; and 22 great grandchildren, with another one arriving in February of 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Herbert Allman, Ward Allman, an infant sister, Kathlene Allman, Helen Streeval, Charlotte Denson, and Wilma Adair.
