Daniel Gatewood Obituary

Daniel E. Gatewood, 71, of Westport, passed away at 1:11 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 28, 1950 in Seymour, Indiana the son of Floyd B. & Kathleen (Asher) Gatewood. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur County and a 1968 graduate of Sandcreek High School. He had achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Westport and a former member of the Westport Kiwanis. Danny enjoyed fishing, rabbit and coon hunting and was passionate for bailing hay and straw. He was an AVID University of Kentucky Wildcats fan. He served with the Indiana National Guard. He married Colleen Clarkson on September 12, 1970 in North Vernon, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Valerie (Dean) Hardison of Kenansville, North Carolina and Vanessa K. Gatewood of Butlerville; sons, Shawn (Sharon) Gatewood and Josh (Rebecca) Gatewood both of Westport; sister, Shirley (Paul) Wallace of Hope; 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Debbie Gatewood and brother, David Gatewood. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor Connie Barr officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. We ask visitors to follow social distancing guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are recommended. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westport Volunteer Fire Department through the funeral home. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.bassgasper.com.
